It is a bit too long and certainly not perfect.
Subj: Concerning Copyright Reform and Article 13

Dear Member of the European Parliament!

To make things clear from the start - I am not one of your constituents as I live in Russia. However recent developments concerning Article 13 of the copyright Directive will have global impact which will also directly affect me so I decided to reach out.

You are probably aware of the critique of Article 13. While these proposals might be acceptable to large platforms they will decimate smaller social services because the cost of implementing upload filters will be prohibiti

"Three of the four major wireless carriers have been accused of breaking US law by selling 911 location data to third parties."

"'Telecom giants broke the law by selling detailed location data' that was 'meant for use only by emergency services', consumer advocacy group Public Knowledge said last week in a blog post that urged the Federal Communications Commission to punish the carriers."

"Public Knowledge's statement came in response to a Motherboard article last week that provided new details about how carriers collect location data from customers and sell it to third parties."

"Data privacy has gotten out of the government's control, according to a report released Wednesday."

"The Government Accountability Office report recommends the passage of a federal internet privacy law with real consequences for companies that violate it."

"The report found that over the last 10 years, most of the Federal Trade Commission's actions against data privacy abuses didn't include fines because the agency doesn't have the authority to impose fines for those specific violations."

European Copyright Reform: Article 13 puts alternative social networks at risk

If you live in the European Union, you have probably heard about the planned European Copyright Reform, and you are probably aware of its controversial Article 13.

The so-called Proposal for a Directive on copyright in the Digital Single Market intends to introduce new regulations around copyright. Article 13 would add new liability rules for online content-sharing service providers. While previously, providers could act on content that infringed copyright upon receiving a notice, the proposed regulations would render providers accountable for content as soon as it has been uploaded.

Effectively, this would put providers into a position where they have to implement strict upload filters to prevent users from uploading content that may infringe on someone else's copyright. This is dangerous, and it puts free speech, the diversity of opinions, and the internet as a whole at risk.

Article 13 previously contained rules to exclude platforms younger tha... Show more...

I closed my FB account 5 years ago when I found out that they were tracking all my activities via share scripts on various pages, even when I wasn't using it.

Had to open an account with them again because of my volunteer work and the fact that all the members communities are there.

Right now I have blocked all the known FB sites on my router and only accessing FB via specific user ID and profile on Firefox which connects to the web via a VPN.

I am really sick and tired of their crap. The whole company is based on profiling the users and selling the data to the highest bidder.

"On Monday, we learned that Apple’s FaceTime video chat service suffers from a bug that permits other people to get audio and even video directly from your iPhone or Mac computer. This can happen without your permission and without the standard indication that the other person is listening and watching. Anyone with FaceTime could eavesdrop on any other FaceTime user by simply calling and performing a simple operation — and the victim’s device would start transmitting, even if they never accept the call."

"This is a fairly catastrophic bug. Yet alarmingly, if major national spy agencies get their way, a comparable bug will become a standard feature in almost every popular communications product currently in use. As incredible as that might seem, we know this because they’ve told us so."

Apple has an enterprise developer security certificate intended STRICTLY to allow developer internal applications to be installed without going through the App Store. It is in Apple's terms of service that it be used ONLY for this purpose.

Apple just revoked Facebook's Enterprise Developer Program certificate because Facebook had been using it to make an end-run around the App Store to distribute data-slurping apps which Apple had banned from the App Store precisely because they collected data wholesale.
"Facebook has been using their membership to distribute a data-collecting app to consumers, which is a clear breach of their agreement with Apple. Any developer using their enterprise certificates to distribute apps to consumers will have their certificates revoked, which is what we did in this case to protect our users and their data."

Zuckerberg plans to integrate WhatsApp, Instagram and Facebook Messenger within the next year

The effort has caused strife within Facebook. Instagram’s founders, Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger, left the company abruptly last fall after Mr. Zuckerberg began weighing in more. WhatsApp’s founders, Jan Koum and Brian Acton, departed for similar reasons. More recently, dozens of WhatsApp employees clashed with Mr. Zuckerberg over the integration plan on internal message boards and during a contentious staff meeting in December, according to four people who attended or were briefed on the event.

The integration plan raises privacy questions because of how users’ data may be shared between services. WhatsApp currently requires only a phone number when new users sign up. By contrast, Facebook and Facebook Messenger ask users to provide their true identities. Matching Facebook and Instagram users to their WhatsApp han
